The Karuna Reiki® method is a registered trademark of the International Center for Reiki Training. It was developed by William L. Rand and patented in America.

The word Karuna is derived from Sanskrit and means compassionate action. It is a healing method that works with a higher energetic frequency than Usui's Reiki; it is not an alternative to the latter, but an extension and enhancement; in fact, only those who have attained the Master level of the Usui method, of any lineage, can access Karuna Reiki® training. It is a method that uses the energies of the Ascended Spiritual Masters.

Karuna Reiki® is divided two Operator levels and two Master levels, although in practice there are three levels, at each level the student is attuned to four cosmic symbols.

In all countries where Karuna has spread, all levels are accessible only to those who have received Usui's Master level, except in Italy, Switzerland and France, where William Lee Rand granted that even those who had received only Usui's Second Level could have Karuna, while Masters of Usui's method can directly access Master Karuna Reiki® through a single seminar that includes all levels.
